Orpheus goes transatlantic in this exhilarating journey to the Big City, opening triumphantly with Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. Hold on to your hats for Bernstein's vivacious Candide Overture, complemented by Barber's intensely poignant Adagio for Strings. We will next welcome special guest soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn to the stage for a performance of the famous aria 'Summertime' from Porgy and Bess, before Marc Corbett-Weaver and Toby Purser collaborate in a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The evening concludes with Dvorák's breathtaking ninth symphony, 'From the New World', written by the Czech composer while he was President of the New York Conservatory..

"Marc Corbett-Weaver was an admirable soloist...he could master the most difficult passages with ease...as full-blooded as possible...the finale was all fire and brimstone... "
